Rest and/or accommodation facilities

On this page

Where the safety or health of workers so requires, particularly in view of the type of activity, the number of workers exceeding a certain number and the remoteness of the construction site, workers must be provided with easily accessible rest and/or accommodation facilities.

Rest and/or accommodation facilities must be of sufficient size and equipped with a number of tables and seats with backrests commensurate with the number of workers.

If no such premises exist, other facilities must be made available to staff to enable them to remain there during breaks in work.

Unless they are used only in exceptional circumstances, fixed accommodation premises must have sufficient sanitary facilities, a dining room and a relaxation room.

They must be equipped with beds, wardrobes, tables and chairs with backrests, taking into account the number of workers, and be allocated taking into account, if necessary, the presence of workers of both sexes.

In rest and/or accommodation facilities, appropriate measures must be in place to protect non-smokers from discomfort caused by tobacco smoke.
